Living with parents: no space of your own

When a couple has no separate home and the perimeter is constantly breached.

Case. A young couple lives with one partner’s parents. Personal space is constantly breached, boundaries are blurred.

Model. The perimeter physically runs through someone else’s territory — the firewall is porous by definition. Hence a chronic background conflict.

What helped. They agreed on shared-living rules with the elders and set separate housing as a step-by-step priority.

Lesson. With no perimeter of your own, explicit rules — and a plan for autonomy — matter most.
