Job loss: a blow to self-worth and the family

How to get through one partner’s unemployment without sliding into blame.

Case. One partner lost their job; money anxiety and a hit to self-worth spill into fights.

Model. An external incident (lost income) plus an internal one (self-worth) add up to double load. Blame here is a second failure on top of the first.

What helped. A team against the situation: support instead of reproach, a shared plan, separating anxiety from attitude to the partner.

Lesson. In an income crisis the partner is needed as an ally, not a critic.
