Unmet expectations

When the partner turned out not to be who you “filled in”.

The problem

One expected the partner to change after the wedding or to match the image from infatuation; reality disappointed.

How we see it

The system is judged against a made-up spec. The conflict isn’t with the partner but with your own unrealized project.

What to do
  1. Separate the real person from the image you filled in.
  2. Say expectations out loud — the partner often never even knew them.
  3. Agree on what can realistically change and what to accept.
  4. Value what is, rather than mourn what you imagined.
✗ Чего НЕ делать
  • Don’t try to “remake” the partner to fit your image.
  • Don’t punish for not meeting unspoken expectations.
  • Don’t mistake disappointment in a fantasy for disappointment in the person.
