Capacity planning: realistic expectations

Why inflated expectations of marriage and a partner overload the system.

The problem

Marriage and the partner are expected to cover all needs and be “like in the movies”. Reality can’t bear the spec — hence disappointment.

The engineering model

The system is loaded beyond capacity against a made-up spec. You need realistic expectations and capacity planning, not an ideal from social media.

Protocol
  1. Reconcile expectations with reality and say them out loud.
  2. Don’t load the marriage with “make me happy in everything”.
  3. Distinguish “important” from “ideal”; let go of some demands.
  4. Value the couple’s real strengths, don’t mourn what’s missing.
✗ Чего НЕ делать
  • Don’t compare your marriage to social-media showcases.
  • Don’t demand the partner be everything at once.
  • Don’t confuse high standards with an impossible spec.

Support: a realistic load keeps the system running for years. See Emotional bank.
